Minister of Energy and Mining, Saša Mujović, seeks the best solution for Željezara’s future and its employees. According to Mujović’s statement to CdM, 8B Capital, owned by businessman Igor Šamiz, is proposing a 50-year lease of the Steelworks and Forge at the Nikšić Željezara.

“I’ve stated that we won’t take any action until the contract and all details are reviewed by relevant authorities. I’ve forwarded the contract to Bojana Ćirović, the Protector of Property and Legal Interests of Montenegro, and am awaiting her response,” Mujović told CdM.

Under the new contract proposal, the company now aims to initiate production instead of seeking investment returns.

“The investor commits to paying €31,000 monthly in advance as lease rent. They are also required to provide a bank guarantee for electricity expenses and employee salaries,” Mujović emphasized to CdM.

He added that the current offer is favorable and low-risk, but stressed the need to assess whether a 50-year lease is feasible and compliant with legal procedures, a matter for the Protector to evaluate.

Mujović clarified to CdM that a new contract was drafted because two clauses in the previous offer were not in accordance with the law.
