Montenegro’s auction for emission credits for the previous year has yielded approximately €12.84 million, with Elektroprivreda Crne Gore, as a legal entity managing stationary facilities emitting greenhouse gases, submitting the sole bid.
According to government sources, Elektroprivreda offered to purchase 535,309.68 tons of CO2 at €24 per ton, totaling €12,847,432.
The Commission has decided to sell the emission credits to the sole bidder at the offered price. Based on the Commission’s recommendation, a decision proposal on the allocation of funds collected from the auction has been prepared for the year 2023. After calculating and paying a 15% corporate tax, the total amount allocated for project implementation is €10,920,317, as stated by the government.
Of the funds raised, €5.5 million will be allocated to promote renewable energy infrastructure, €4.27 million for environmental protection and enhancement, and €1.15 million to stimulate innovations aligned with Montenegro’s Smart Specialization Strategy.
