Ernad Suljević, the Minister for Regional and Investment Development and Cooperation with NGOs, emphasized the critical role that non-governmental organizations (NGOs) play in the social and economic development of the country, as well as in strengthening civil society.
“I firmly believe that the NGO sector is an essential partner to the state in the process of EU accession. I expect that, through our partnership and cooperation, we will make significant progress in this area,” said Suljević.
The Minister met with Ekaterina Paniklova, the UNDP Resident Representative in Montenegro, to discuss further strengthening their collaboration and coordination on future projects.
During the meeting, Suljević outlined the Ministry’s key responsibilities and goals, focusing on priority projects aimed at sustainable regional development and improving the investment climate, especially in Montenegro’s less-developed municipalities.
A particular emphasis was placed on plans for collaboration with NGOs in the coming period.
Since the establishment of the UNDP office in Montenegro in 2006, the organization has implemented projects worth over 125 million euros. Paniklova presented the UNDP’s program portfolio, highlighting projects related to regional development, strategic planning at the municipal level, establishment of business zones, and support for cluster development.
“The UNDP office in Montenegro brings a wealth of experience and expertise from 177 countries and territories where we operate. All of our resources are at your disposal to support the planned activities of the Ministry,” said Paniklova.
The meeting was described as a significant step towards laying strong foundations for future collaboration, as well as continuing projects that were initiated prior to the Government’s reconstruction.
“We are confident that the cooperation between the Ministry and UNDP will be of great importance for both sides, given that we share a common vision for the future,” Suljević concluded.
