The Montenegrin government has announced plans to reduce profit margins on a thousand products, according to Deputy Prime Minister Nik Đeljošaj.

At a recent press conference, Đeljošaj clarified that this measure will not affect small stores, as reported by the RTCG Portal. “Small markets will be exempt from this decision. The new policy will be in effect until January 31, 2025. We have received strong support from the unions, who provided us with a consumer basket,” he said.

Prime Minister Milojko Spajić added that while inflation is not the primary issue, high product prices remain a concern. “We are addressing high product prices, working on a problem that has been inherited. We took into account the feedback from citizens who submitted their requests, leading us to implement a more comprehensive decision,” he explained.

Spajić also anticipates that increases in wages and pensions will occur in October, ensuring that the benefits of this program are not diminished by retailers. “This measure will help citizens experience an increase in their wages and a significantly improved standard of living. It will reassure them that the government is committed to maintaining their standard of living, despite ongoing opposition claims,” he added.

This move comes after Đeljošaj’s call for citizens to suggest which products they believe should see price reductions.
