Montenegro celebrates agricultural abundance at Food and Agricultural Products Fair

Montenegro should take pride in and express gratitude for its abundant natural resources, which create ideal conditions for producing agricultural goods, particularly organic products, stated Vladimir Joković, the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management.

During the opening of the Food and Agricultural Products Fair at Roman Square in Podgorica, Joković emphasized the importance of these resources. The fair, organized by the ministry in collaboration with the Capital City and the Chamber of Commerce (PKCG), received support from the FAO and was held in honor of World Food Day.

At the event, Joković presented certificates of appreciation to participating agricultural producers.

“Numerous local producers showcased their offerings, allowing food enthusiasts to experience a unique blend of tradition and authenticity. The fair serves as a platform for producers to connect with true lovers of local flavors, with an emphasis on preserving and promoting our national gastronomic heritage and natural resources,” the ministry stated.

Joković highlighted that World Food Day aims to achieve the global goal of zero hunger, which can only be realized through collective effort and commitment.

“We chose to focus this fair on organic and traditional agricultural production, featuring successful entrepreneurs who supply the Montenegrin market significantly, supported by IPARD. Our booths include a wide range of products such as honey, wine, cheese, cured meats, juices, flour, olive oil, and dried figs,” he noted.

He underscored the ministry’s commitment to entering the European Union (EU) market, emphasizing the importance of creating a recognizable Montenegro as a country with a rich agricultural tradition, while fostering a favorable environment for local producers in alignment with European values.

Nabil Gandži, Deputy Regional Representative of FAO for Europe and Central Asia, shared that this year’s theme is “The Right to Food for a Better Life and a Better Future,” highlighting the essential right of every individual to access adequate and healthy food.

“Currently, farmers around the world are producing more than enough food to feed the global population. Small and family farms are fundamental to this production. World Food Day is a unique opportunity to celebrate the dedication of farmers who help Montenegro maintain its ancient culinary traditions,” Gandži added.

The fair featured not only a diverse array of local products but also a cultural and entertainment program, including free tastings of traditional Montenegrin dishes and activities designed for children.

Additionally, a panel discussion titled “Potential in Domestic Production and Support for Agricultural Producers” was conducted.
