New hospitality and recreational facilities planned for Durmitor National Park by 2028

By the end of 2028, Durmitor National Park will host eight hospitality facilities and/or dining terraces, seven campsites, an adventure park, three zip lines, as well as various stands, toll booths, retail outlets, and mountain huts. These facilities are outlined in the “Program for Temporary Facilities in the Durmitor National Park for the 2024–2028 Period,” established by the Ministry of Spatial Planning, Urbanism and State Property.

The program includes gates within the protected area, toilets, stands, boat storage, supervisory buildings, mountain huts, and a children’s playground with a planned area of up to 120 square meters.

In the cadastral municipality (CM) of Žabljak I, the construction of a campsite covering up to 2,000 square meters is planned. This land will be designated for accommodation in caravans, trailers, tents, or other mobile equipment for outdoor lodging. A pontoon – a floating temporary structure for mooring vessels, people movement, and goods transportation – is also planned if situated within port facilities.

In the second level of protection within this CM, a temporary hospitality terrace up to 300 square meters and a retail and service facility up to 30 square meters are planned, including photo-checks (temporary structures in protected areas, which may include animal feeders/drinkers and cameras).

In CM Pašina voda II, which falls under the third level of protection, a hospitality facility with a terrace of up to 35 square meters and a terrace of up to 25 square meters are planned. These facilities, as specified in the program, must be of a temporary modular type.

A campsite covering 1,239 square meters is planned for CM Pašina voda II. Shelters for hikers are planned in CM Žabljak II and CM Motički gaj II.

In Motički gaj I, which is under the III level of protection, an adventure park with tubing tracks covering 6,000 square meters, a modular parking garage, equipment storage, a 100 square meter hospitality terrace, a hospitality facility with terraces of 100+140 square meters, and a retail facility up to 126 square meters are planned.
