The British company FLH – Future Living & Hospitality Ltd is planning substantial investments in Montenegro, as announced by the Ministry of Spatial Planning, Urbanism, and State Property of Montenegro. The company aims to build self-sustaining complexes across the country, with an initial investment of approximately EUR 1.4 billion.
Minister Janko Odović recently met with FLH representatives to discuss these ambitious plans, which are intended to boost Montenegro’s growing tourism sector.
FLH intends to develop a community accommodating 5,000 elderly citizens and 3,000 guests, supported by 2,400 employees. The goal is to create a fully self-sustaining village that produces its own water, energy and food, adhering to ecological principles and sustainable economic practices.
This project, primarily focused on retirees, aims to provide high levels of medical care and enhance quality of life through various activities and social interactions. It will be the first in the world to align with the United Nations’ Agenda 2030 for sustainable development.
The initial phase of the project will involve an investment of approximately EUR 1.4 billion, significantly stimulating the local economy by creating employment opportunities and improving communal infrastructure. This investment will generate jobs for the local population. FLH representatives are also interested in expanding the project to double the initial investment, requiring an additional EUR 1 billion and creating even more job opportunities.
Discussions between Odović and FLH centered on facilitating the project’s implementation, emphasizing collaboration with local municipalities and the Government of Montenegro. The project’s importance is underscored by the interest shown by esteemed institutions such as the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the World Bank, and other international financial institutions.
Ajhan Jeginsu, FLH Director, stated that FLH is a leader in the hospitality sector, boasting over 50 years of combined experience in 40 countries and 280 successful projects in real estate development, project management, design, master planning, and hospitality management. Their current focus is on building and managing ecological and self-sustaining projects for the elderly, adults, retirees, and tourists.
The proposed investment by FLH aligns with Montenegro’s economic development goals and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals 2030. FLH is interested in investing in coastal municipalities as well as cities like Podgorica, Danilovgrad, Nikšić, and Cetinje, which have favorable climates and environments that support agricultural development as part of the self-sustaining system.
