Montenegro and SMATSA strengthen cooperation on air traffic control and security standards

Montenegrin Defense Minister Dragan Krapović met with a delegation from Serbia and Montenegro Air Traffic Services Agency (SMATSA), led by Deputy Director Rajko Uskoković, to discuss ongoing and future cooperation.

Krapović emphasized the successful coordination between the Ministry of Defense and SMATSA, particularly in aviation and air traffic control, and highlighted the importance of meeting European security standards. He also noted the significance of having Montenegrin defense experts involved in SMATSA’s operations.

Uskoković presented upcoming infrastructure projects in Montenegro, including the Vrsuta radar station and a telecommunications center on Mount Lovćen. He noted that SMATSA is projected to handle a record one million overflights this year and stressed the need for qualified personnel trained to European standards.

A comprehensive cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Defense and SMATSA is expected to be signed in the coming months.
