The traditionally strong bilateral relations between Montenegro and Germany provide an excellent foundation for further cooperation and the intensification of economic and trade relations between the two countries, stated the Minister of Mining, Oil,and Gas, Admir Šahmanović, during a meeting with Ambassador Peter Felten.
The discussions focused on the sustainable exploitation of mineral resources and the utilization of natural resources in line with the principles of the green economy.
Felten emphasized the importance of learning from Germany’s experiences in the green transition process and highlighted the challenges that Montenegro will face on this path.
Šahmanović presented key development projects in his ministry, with a particular focus on the need for strategic documents to guide policies in the mining, oil, and gas sectors.
“To secure a better geopolitical position for Montenegro, it is essential to act swiftly and decisively, especially in light of current events in Europe and the world,” Šahmanović stated.
He added that activities aimed at ensuring a stable supply of petroleum products are currently among the Ministry’s top priorities.
Montenegro possesses significant potential in mineral resources, but it is crucial that project development is planned in accordance with the best European practices and high environmental and public health standards.
Šahmanović also emphasized the importance of creating new jobs through the development of economic activities, which will help retain young people, particularly in the northern part of Montenegro, which has been facing significant population outflow for a prolonged period.
The meeting concluded with a shared agreement on the need for enhanced cooperation and the exchange of experiences to create a sustainable and prosperous future for both countries.
