Montenegro and Croatia have agreed to jointly work on expanding access roads at their border crossings, aiming to ease traffic flow and reduce congestion, especially during the summer months. Both countries plan to launch tenders by the end of the year for the development of technical documentation, paving the way for future construction works.

This was one of the key outcomes of a working meeting held in the Municipality of Konavle, attended by the directors of Monteput and the Montenegrin Transport Administration, Milan Ljiljanić and Radomir Vuksanović, alongside Croatian counterparts. The initiative followed a site visit to the Karasovići border crossing and was originally proposed by Hrvatske Ceste (Croatian Roads).

In addition to improving border infrastructure, discussions included aligning future highway and express road corridors between the two countries. Plans also involve cooperation on project documentation and the preparation of construction tenders.

Ljiljanić emphasized that Montenegro’s new Spatial Plan enables intensified work on highway and express road development, with a focus on protecting the Bay of Kotor. Ivica Budimir, head of Hrvatske Ceste, underlined the importance of harmonizing infrastructure plans and timelines for both countries.
