Montenegro and Austria have stable economic relations, but there is still considerable room to deepen cooperation, particularly through stronger exports, production development and joint investment projects.
That was the message from a Montenegro–Austria business forum held in Podgorica, organised by the Chamber of Economy of Montenegro, the Commercial Section of the Austrian Embassy and the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber.
Chamber of Economy president Nina Drakić said Austria remains one of Montenegro’s important economic partners and investors. She stressed that such meetings should serve as a platform for direct links between companies, institutions and investors, with particular focus on transport, logistics, infrastructure and broader connectivity.
Minister of Public Works Majda Adžović said cooperation between the two countries is based on trust and the long-standing presence of Austrian companies in the Montenegrin market. She noted that Montenegro is working to modernise its infrastructure, improve the business environment and align more closely with European standards, creating stronger conditions for new investment.
Austrian Embassy trade attaché Anna Salehi welcomed the interest of Montenegrin companies in cooperation with Austrian partners. During the forum, companies also held bilateral meetings to discuss potential partnerships in infrastructure, construction, energy, transport, logistics, tourism, healthcare and other sectors.
For Montenegro, the forum points to a broader economic agenda: moving cooperation with Austria beyond traditional trade links and toward investment, project development and practical business partnerships. The most immediate opportunities appear to be in sectors where Montenegro needs external know-how, financing discipline and implementation capacity — especially infrastructure, energy, logistics and tourism-related development.
