The Government of Montenegro has approved a proposal from the Ministry of Transport to allocate part of the profits of Airports of Montenegro, totaling 4.12 million euros, to finance improvements in the country’s air connectivity.

According to the Ministry, these funds are returned to the state budget under the Airports of Montenegro statute, but the government agreed to use them specifically for the development of air transport as part of a strategic approach to enhancing Montenegro’s international connectivity and competitiveness.

The decision follows recent efforts by the Ministry to improve air traffic and accessibility, including a recent agreement with Wizz Air to establish a base in Montenegro.

Transport Minister Maja Vukićević emphasized that the government’s decision reflects a strategic approach to sector development. She noted that the initiative aims to support programs that enhance the country’s connectivity, promote stable growth in air traffic, boost tourism, and strengthen the overall economy.

The Ministry of Transport, together with the Ministry of Finance, will determine the schedule for transferring the funds and their use through a dedicated budget line for the international air connectivity development program.

The approved proposal underlines the government’s commitment to making air transport a key driver of economic and tourism development and ensuring that Montenegro remains recognized as a modern, connected, and open destination.
