Kolašin snowmaking investment targets winter-season resilience

The Ministry of Public Works launched a tender on 11 July for the design and construction of artificial reservoirs supporting snowmaking at Ski Centre Kolašin 1600. The contract value was not disclosed in the available announcement.

The investment is intended to reduce dependence on natural snowfall and improve the reliability of the winter operating season. This is increasingly important as temperature volatility and irregular snowfall affect the bankability of mountain-tourism assets.

The project’s commercial value will depend on reservoir capacity, water availability, pumping requirements, electricity consumption and the proportion of ski terrain that can be covered. Snowmaking infrastructure can extend operating days, but it also increases energy and maintenance costs and requires careful environmental and water-management planning.
