Kolašin moves to reduce winter-season weather risk

The Ministry of Public Works launched a tender on 11 July for the design and construction of artificial water reservoirs supporting snowmaking at Ski Centre Kolašin 1600.

The reservoirs are intended to secure a more reliable supply of artificial snow, extend the operating season and reduce dependence on increasingly variable natural snowfall. The tender value was not disclosed in the initial announcement.

The project addresses one of the most material risks facing northern Montenegro’s hotel and residential-development market. New accommodation capacity around Kolašin requires predictable ski-centre operations to generate winter occupancy and support property valuations. Snowmaking alone will not resolve access-road, lift-capacity and destination-management constraints, but it is an essential piece of revenue-protection infrastructure.
