Iberia is inaugurating its first direct service between Madrid and Tivat on 18 July, opening a new Western European route during the most commercially important part of Montenegro’s tourism season.

The Spanish carrier will operate Airbus A320 aircraft on Tuesdays and Saturdays until 15 September, offering 6,300 seats across the two-month programme. Flight IB865 is scheduled to leave Madrid at 10.40 and reach Tivat at 13.45, with the return service departing at 14.30.

The timetable provides approximately 3,150 inbound seats if the published capacity is divided equally between directions. That is too small to change Montenegro’s aggregate tourism volumes, but the route has greater strategic value than its scale suggests. Madrid gives Tivat direct access to the Spanish market and connections across Iberia’s Latin American network, broadening a coastal tourism base still heavily dependent on regional, central European and eastern European visitors.

The commercial beneficiaries should be concentrated around the Bay of Kotor, including Porto Montenegro, Luštica Bay, Portonovi and higher-category hotels. The service also strengthens the investment rationale for internationally branded hospitality assets seeking a more diversified guest mix.

Its continuation beyond September will depend on load factors, ticket yields and the ability of Tivat Airport to process passengers reliably during congested summer periods. The short operating window gives Iberia limited time to establish recurring demand, but a strong first season could support an earlier start or longer programme in 2027.
