Nikola Milović, a member of the DPS Presidency and a Montenegrin MP, has sharply criticized the current government, claiming that Montenegro is experiencing one of its worst tourist seasons in decades. He attributes this decline to what he calls a deliberate political strategy to undermine the tourism sector.
Milović pointed to multiple issues, including unprepared beaches, deteriorating road infrastructure, a significant increase in VAT on tourism services (from 7% to 15%), fewer international flights, and late or mismanaged public tenders—especially for coastal concessions. According to industry feedback, many accommodation facilities are seeing 30–40% lower revenues compared to last year.
He also blamed the 2021 shutdown of the national airline, Montenegro Airlines, for reduced air connectivity. The country, he says, now shows a -6% drop in airline accessibility compared to regional peers.
Milović warned that these missteps are pushing Montenegro from a once fast-growing tourist destination to a transit country with declining service quality, while neighboring nations benefit. He concluded by accusing the government of ignoring opposition warnings and risking the collapse of a sector that contributes nearly 30% to the national GDP.
