Montenegro’s state-owned utility, Elektroprivreda Crne Gore (EPCG), has launched a tender for the design, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of two Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), each with a capacity of 30 MW and 120 MWh, operating at 35 kV.

The total procurement value is €58.08 million including VAT (€48 million excluding VAT), with bids accepted until 15 October 2025. EPCG requires participating companies to be officially registered in their respective national business registries.

The BESS units come with a 10-year warranty covering preventive and routine maintenance, performance monitoring, and emergency interventions. Suppliers must also provide a maintenance plan and cost estimate for years 11–20, ensuring long-term operational reliability.

The first two BESS systems will be built on the Željezara site, enabling EPCG to better manage electricity surpluses and deficits. The project is expected to be financed through loans from domestic and international banks and funds, with repayments beginning once the systems are operational, using profits generated from their operation.
