Bulgaria and Montenegro have taken a new step toward strengthening cooperation in tourism and air transport. Following the signing of a memorandum of understanding in early September, the two countries have confirmed concrete interest in establishing a direct air route between Sofia and Podgorica.

According to Bulgaria’s Ministry of Tourism, three airlines have expressed interest in launching regular and charter flights on the route. The transport and tourism ministries of both countries are working on a cooperation model that would allow the service to begin in the coming months.

The introduction of a direct flight connection is seen as an important move to boost tourism exchange between Bulgaria and Montenegro, as well as a step toward improving regional connectivity across the Balkans. A joint promotional campaign is also being planned to present both countries as attractive destinations for each other’s citizens and for third markets.

Sources from Bulgaria indicate that the airlines GullivAir, BH Air, and European Air Charter are among those interested, all of which have experience operating charter and seasonal flights across the Balkans and Mediterranean.

The first meeting of the joint aviation working group, established under the bilateral agreement, is expected to take place in the coming weeks to define the technical and operational details of the Sofia–Podgorica route.
