Berane is becoming an increasingly popular destination for domestic and international tourists, with its mountains, outdoor activities and cultural events supporting steady growth in visitor numbers.
More than 3,000 tourist arrivals and almost 6,000 overnight stays were recorded between January and July 2026. Arrivals increased by around 1,000 compared with the same period last year, while overnight stays remained broadly stable with a slight rise. Accommodation across the municipality was fully occupied at the peak of the summer season.
The surrounding mountains—including Bjelasica, Jelovica, Cmiljevica and Mokra—are central to Berane’s appeal. Local tourism officials believe these natural areas offer strong potential for recreation, active holidays and the development of rural and mountain tourism.
Most visitors still come from Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and North Macedonia. However, Berane has also recorded growing interest from Germany, the Netherlands, Israel, Russia, Denmark and the United Kingdom over the past two years.
Concerts, festivals, sporting events and cultural programmes have further strengthened the local offer. New tourist accommodation is also being developed inside and outside the urban area.
Local officials now want to encourage visitors to remain longer by expanding available activities and services. Accommodation generally costs between €30 and €50 per person per night, with lower prices available at some rural households.
