The municipality of Bar recorded stronger tourist traffic during the main 2026 season, supported by higher accommodation demand and a growing cruise segment.
From May through July, the city registered 140,119 tourist arrivals, an increase of 16% from the same period of 2025. Overnight stays rose by 11% to 1,041,439.
Individual accommodation added another 48,869 arrivals in August, up 6%, while overnight stays increased by 3% to 420,172. Final collective-accommodation figures for August have not yet been incorporated into those results.
Visitors from neighbouring countries remained the largest group, followed by travellers from Poland, Germany, Russia, France, Ukraine, the United States and Hungary. This mix gives Bar a broader geographical demand base than coastal destinations that depend heavily on one or two markets.
Cruise traffic is becoming increasingly important. A total of 41 cruise ships carrying around 128,000 passengers are expected to visit Bar during the season running from late March to October 26. September alone was projected to bring about 15,000 passengers and more than 5,000 crew members.
The economic value of cruise arrivals depends on passenger spending ashore, excursion capacity and the ability of local businesses to capture port traffic. High passenger numbers do not automatically generate hotel revenue, but they can benefit restaurants, retailers, transport operators and cultural attractions.
Bar still faces the wider Montenegrin challenge of converting summer volume into year-round activity. Stronger events, sports tourism and improved transport connections could support the pre-season and post-season, reducing dependence on the concentrated July-August market.
