The semi-annual report from the Employment Agency reveals that the municipality of Petnjica has the highest unemployment rate in Montenegro at 73.48%, while Kotor enjoys the lowest rate at 1.79%.
In Petnjica, of the 1,300 active working residents, only 345 are employed, leaving 956 registered as unemployed. In contrast, Kotor has 9,570 working-age residents, with 9,400 employed and just 171 on the unemployment list.
Five municipalities report unemployment rates exceeding 50%, indicating more unemployed individuals than those with jobs. Following Petnjica, Gusinje has a rate of 67.78%, Andrijevica stands at 56.71%, Plav at 55.21%, and Rožaje at 54.32%.
A significant portion of the unemployed in these areas includes people with disabilities. In Berane, for instance, 53% of the 3,900 unemployed individuals are registered as persons with disabilities.
While the national average unemployment rate is 11.56%, many northern municipalities see rates above 20%, whereas coastal towns typically maintain rates below 5%.
