The reconstruction of the Tivat–Jaz road is actively progressing on three sections and is halfway completed on a fourth. Work has also recently started on a sixth section. The Traffic Administration notes that while the initial pace of construction was excellent, a decision was made to focus the work on the left and right sides of the existing roadway, rather than on the current road surface. This has led to some delays on sections III and IV.
Despite this, the overall timeline for the project remains largely unaffected, although the planned progress on these sections will be impacted. The first section, located near Tivat Airport, is separate from the existing road, so traffic disruption has been minimal. Significant earthworks have been completed on these sections, and the current focus is on installing pipes for the Regional Water Supply. After this, work will shift to stormwater drainage and street lighting, bringing sections I and II closer to completion.
Božović highlighted that the decision to limit work during the summer was aimed at avoiding negative impacts on the tourist season. The high summer traffic could have hindered construction, particularly in material transport and earthworks. As of now, the overall project schedule remains on track.
Upcoming work includes asphalting the second section from the Tivat-Kotor-Budva-Krtole roundabout to the planned roundabout near HDL. Following this, final and asphalting work will commence on the first section. After the tourist season ends, existing asphalt will be removed to allow additional work on stormwater drainage, sidewalks, medians, and street lighting. The project is set for completion within two years from the start of construction, with a target completion date of January 15, 2026. The total value of the project is approximately EUR 54 million, with around EUR 9 million allocated for the Regional Water Supply pipeline.
To date, expenditures have been significantly below the total contract value, and based on the current project status, no cost overruns are expected.
Božović also emphasized the project’s significant benefits for service levels and traffic safety. Upon completion, the Jaz–Tivat Boulevard will address issues with pedestrian pathways, ensuring safer pedestrian traffic. While it cannot guarantee the complete elimination of accidents, the improved road conditions will enhance traffic management and safety by allowing for better traffic rerouting.
